Iris E Aschim

Iris Elizabeth Aschim, 97, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023, in Mountain Home, AR. Iris was born on August 14, 1925, in Arion, Iowa, to John and Augusta Lueck Furne. She graduated from Dow City, IA High School in 1943 and went on to be a Rosie the Riveter at a U.S. Air Force modification center in Cheyenne, WY until 1945. Iris then entered the Federal Government's Cadet Nurse Corp training program at Broadlawns Polk County Hospital in Des Moines, IA. After the three year nursing program she began her career as a Registered Nurse. Iris married Donald K. Aschim on October 30, 1948 in Des Moines, IA. Iris briefly left nursing, when the couple moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1961. She returned to nursing in 1967 and retired from Golden Valley Health Center in Golden Valley, MN, in 1977. Iris and Don moved to Lakeview, AR in 1978. She volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Bank in the Baxter county area for 20 years. Iris was a long-time member of Rivercliff Golf Club and was a devoted member of the Worldwide Fellowship of Alanon since 1970. She loved cooking for others, gardening, sewing, golf and fishing.

Iris is survived by two daughters, Paula (Tim Garvey) Aschim of Bloomington, IL, Diane (Terry) Manderfeld of Ham Lake, MN; grandchildren, Josh Manderfeld and Megan Mattson; and great-grandchildren, Joseph, Iris, and Lincoln.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years; brothers, Luverne, Lowell, Donald, Dale, and Marty Furne; and sisters, Jean Reister and Joan Luhring.

The family will gather to remember Iris and Don at their favorite fishing spot at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made in Iris' name to the organization of the donor's choice.
