Jack R. Cole was born on June 7, 1925 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was the son of Roy and Lucy Dail Cole. Jack Cole married Tommye Bryant on March 1, 1952 in Wynne, Arkansas. During World War II he served with the Army Air Corps in China as a Cryptographer with the Flying Tigers. He earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He was employed as a quality control and design engineer for the motor division of General Electric in Jonesboro for 27 years where he was nominated for the Gerald L. Phillippe Award for distinguished public service. After retiring from GE he opened Black Powder Jack's Gun Shop in Jonesboro and was known as Black Powder Jack. Jack Cole worked with the Boy Scouts In Jonesboro for 15 years and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. He was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. He designed many Boy Scout patches and won the District Award of Merit in 1974. In 1973 he received a plaque for Cheerful Service with the Shawnee Chapter. Mr Cole was a member of the First Christian Church in Jonesboro. He moved to Mountain Home in 1984 from Jonesboro. Jack Cole passed away on December 18, 2004 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 11 days. Survivors: His wife, Tommye Cole of Mountain Home, Arkansas; one son, Steven B. Cole and wife Joan, of Jonesboro, Arkansas; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nancy Huff and husband, Terrell, of Jonesboro, Arkansas Preceded in Death by: His parents and one son, Michael Funeral: A memorial service will be at the First Christian Church in Jonesboro, Arkansas at a later date.
