Jack I. Wood

August 2, 1939 — September 27, 2020

Jack Iris Wood (Mtn. Home, AR) peacefully passed away on the Lord’s day September 27, 2020 at the age of 81 surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Jack is predeceased by his father, Arthur and mother, Juanita, brothers, Buddy and Stanley. He is survived by his ex-wife and close friend Mary Wood and daughters Laura, Lisa (Steve Schraw) and Jackie (Steven Blasdel).  He is blessed with five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren as well as a countless number of family and friends whom he kept very near to his heart.

From 1963 to 1967, Jack was proud to have served in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict. Subsequently he was employed as a Mountain Home Police Officer and then as a heavy machine operator for a large land development company in Florida. In 1988, Jack retired in Mountain Home.

Jack wouldn’t want anyone to be upset over his death but rather celebrate the beautiful and blessed life he lived. He was a kind man with a humble spirit. He never knew a stranger. If you were ever lucky enough to meet Jack or hear his heart warming laugh, you would know he lived every day to the fullest and without any regrets.
There was no one quite like this stringed instrument playing, bluegrass and gospel music loving, Western movie watching, pancake flipping, coffee drinking, tractor driving, banana-pudding and fried catfish eating, joke cracking and all around effervescent ray of light. He cherished every moment he could spend with his family and friends. Whether it was wading through gifts knee high surrounding the Christmas tree, holding hands while giving thanks for a Thanksgiving turkey or just going on long drives, Jack spoke fondly of these moments during his last days with a smile on his face and a glisten in his eyes.
If you’d like to honor Jack, simply pick up the phone and call your loved ones. Tomorrow is never guaranteed so use today to go see them, sit at their table, and have a cup of coffee. The family would like to give their deepest appreciation to The Hospice of the Ozarks, please consider making a donation at https://www.hospiceoftheozarks.org/ways-to-give .
