James Archie Herron was born December 18, 1926 in Blakesburg, Iowa. He was the son of Archie and Virga L. Harsfield Herron. He married Mary Frances Carter in Centerville, Iowa on March 13, 1944. He lived in the Gamaliel area since moving from Moravia, Iowa in 1973. He was former owner of Echo Point Resort, and sold real estate for Blackburn and Homestead Real Estate Companies. He was Commissioner of Gamaliel Fire Department for many years and loved to restore antique cars. James Archie Herron passed away at Care Manor Nursing Home on February 8, 2005 at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 12 days. Survivors: His wife of 61 years, Mary Herron of Gamaliel, Arkansas; one daughter, Mary Kathryn (Kay) Beecroft of Gamaliel; two grandsons, Christopher (Regina) Beecroft of Bentonville, Arkansas and Ted (Christine) Beecroft of Chicago, Illinois; and three great-grandchildren.
