James Jay Smith, 64, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was born on November 30, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, to Robert Smith and Bettie Hoover. He was a boilermaker and worked across the country for several years before making Mountain Home his permanent residence. Jay never met a stranger and especially loved being with his friends, sharing stories, hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He loved spending time with his grandson, Trenton.
Jay is survived by four brothers, Ray (Carolyn) Smith of Memphis, TN, Glenn Smith of Lakeland, FL, Harvey (Teresa) Hughes of Mountain Home, AR, and Denny Hoover of Mountain Home, AR; sister, Debbie Hankins of Kiefer, OK; nieces and nephews, Robert (Brittney) Smith, Chad Hankins, Cody Hankins, Heath Hughes, Braden Hughes, Hannah Hoover, Weston Hoover, Jackson Gregory; and grandson, Trenton Welch.
He is preceded in death by father, Robert Smith; mother, Bettie Jean Hoover; brother-in-law, David Hankins; and his beloved dog, Bubba.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in his name to a charity of choice.
