James Stevens

Jim Stevens was born December 15, 1942 in Washington, Iowa to James Wilbur and Lucille E. Peterson Stevens. He married Sharon E. Fuson on March 9, 1963 in Des Moines, Iowa. Jim served as a Des Moines police officer from 1966 - 1973. Jim moved to Mountain Home in 1975 where he served as a city police officer from 1975 - 1986. Jim was the city's first full time Mayor from 1986 - 1991 and served as City Councilman from 1997 - 2006. He also served the city as a volunteer fireman and EMT. Jim was a member of the Mountain Home Rotary Club for 29 years, serving as Secretary for 18 years and was also a Past President, as well as a Paul Harris Fellow, member of the Mountain Home Masonic Lodge #225 F&AM and Shrine Past President, member of the Elk's Lodge #1714 BPOE and Moose Lodge #1953. Jim served as a Lt. Colonel with the Civil Air Patrol for 18 years. He was the Twin Lakes' CAP Squadron Commander and the Wing's Inspector General for the State of Arkansas. Jim served as Past President of the Arkansas Better Business Bureau, member of the Municipal League Advisory and Workman's Compensation Board, member of the North Central Arkansas Regional Economic Development Board, and Past President of the local Salvation Army Board of Directors. Jim was a member of the First Christian Church in Mountain Home where he served as a deacon and elder, chairman of the Church Board, and served on the Regional and National Board General Assembly for the Disciples of Christ. He was also active in the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. Jim passed away Monday, May 22 at the local Hospice House. Survivors: Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon; one son - Mark Stevens and wife Jane; one daughter - Suzanne and husband Chris and 2 grandchildren. Preceded in Death by: Visitation: Visitation will be Saturday, June 3, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home. Funeral: A Memorial Service for 63 year old James Craig "Jim" Stevens of Mountain Home will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2006 at the First Christian Church of Mountain Home with Rev. Lee Nirschl officiating. Burial: Burial will be in Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorials: Memorials may be made to Civil Air Patrol, Mountain Home Rotary Club, Pietz House (men's cancer support group), or Mountain Home Hospice House.
