Jane Speerschneider was born the daughter of Vernett and Kate Reeves, January 23, 1913. She was raised on a farm near Everest, Kansas where she graduated from high school. She attended Highland Community College and taught in country schools in the area before attending the University of Kansas. There, she earned a bachelor's degree in home economics and met her future husband, Floyd Speerschneider, whom she married in 1938. The couple made their home in Des Plaines, Illinois where they raised two sons. During that time, Jane earned a Master's degree in education from National Teacher's College, Evanston, IL and taught sixth grade for twenty years. After retiring, the couple moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas where Jane enjoyed a second career making drapes. She belonged to the Retired Teachers' Association, South Mountain EHC, Mountain Home Women's Club, the Organ Guild and the Mountain Home Stamp Club. Throughout her life, Jane remained an avid bridge player, stamp collector, teacher, education advocate, draper, Air Stream traveler, and friend. Jane Speerschneider passed away at the Sweet Life care center on June 19, 2005, at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 26 days.
