Janet Sue Roane

August 30, 1933 — April 28, 2016

Long time Baxter County resident Janet Sue Tippitt Roane, 82, of Mountain Home, passed on to her heavenly reward on April 28th at Hospice of the Ozarks, after a decade long battle with cancer.

Janet was born August 30, 1933, in Pocahontas, Arkansas to C.A. “Tip” and Therea Swan Tippitt.
She and her parents moved to Mountain Home at the end of World War II, where the whole family operated the town's first NAPA Auto Parts Store. That's where she met the boy who would, after a long courtship, become her husband, partner and best friend. On September 21, 1950, she married her sweetheart Tommy Roane in the First United Methodist Church of Mountain Home.

After Tommy served a stint in the Navy, Janet and Tommy spent two years working in Saint Louis to save money to purchase land. They returned to Mountain Home, bought a farm, and settled in to raise a family. Soon their family grew to include a son Roy and a daughter Jane. Jane married David Prewett after college and the grandchildren, Haley and Wesley, that were the pride of Janet's life were born.

Besides being a wonderful, loving, wife, mother, and grandmother, Janet had a career that included positions at the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office and at First State Savings and Loan and its successor institutions for 28 years.

She was also active in COTERIE CLUB, DEMOCRATIC WOMEN OF BAXTER COUNTY, BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN, and the BAXTER COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY. She and Tommy worked hard and loved their farm and in 1987 they were named the BAXTER COUNTY FARM FAMILY OF THE YEAR.

She was a loyal member of FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH of MOUNTAIN HOME for more than 65 years, including working with the Church Youth when her children were in High School.

She very much enjoyed sewing, reading, square dancing, taking care of others, researching family and local history, and doing anything with her grandchildren. She was an avid amateur photographer, with her family being her favorite subjects.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Glenna and brother-in-law Charles Moore, her twin brother Jerry Tippitt and sister-in-law Barbara.

She is survived by her husband Tommy Roane and son Roy Roane of Mountain Home, daughter Jane Prewett, son-in-law David Prewett, and grandson Wesley Prewett of Russellville, Arkansas, granddaughter Haley Prewett of Oxford, Mississippi, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
