A Celebration of Life for Janet ?Jan? Charlene York of Fairview, Arkansas will be held 11AM Friday September 17, 2010 at the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church with Reverend Nicholas Lascaro officiating. (To remember Jan please dress in bright colors, no black.) Jan died September 14, 2010 at Hospice House of the Ozarks. She was 78.
Jan was born May 30, 1932 at Ottumwa, Iowa to Charles and Lora Pomeroy Overturf. She married Kenneth York May 31, 1951 at Ottumwa, Iowa. Jan will be remembered by her family and friends for her wonderful sense of humor, her love of life and enjoying a glass of scotch. She was a committed Democrat and an avid reader. Jan was a member of the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church and a volunteer for TeleCare. She moved here from Ames, Iowa in 1974.
Jan is survived by her husband Kenneth of the home; two sons, Doug York (Billie Joe) of Cedar Rapids, IA and Kenneth York, JR (Jana) of Camp AMA, Japan; one daughter, Lori Shockly (Mark) of Fairview, AR; two sisters, Marge Burns of Des Moines, IA, and Doris Howell of Pensacola, FL; and five grandchildren, Chad Shockley(Laura), Davie Shockley (Liz), Chris York (Anne), Ryan York (Feryl) and Griffin York.
She was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters, and one son, Greg
Memorials may be made to the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church.
