A Graveside Service for Janice “Jan” N. Peters of Flippin, Arkansas, will be 2:00 pm, Monday, January 6, 2020, at Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, with Reverend Randy Ludwig officiating.
Jan passed away January 2, 2020, in Flippin, Arkansas at the age of 91. She was born April 26, 1928, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Clyde Albert and Mary Elizabeth (Kirkpatrick) Wainscott. After graduating high school, Jan moved to Fairbanks, Alaska to attend university. It was there that she met her first husband and father of her two sons, Clell Lawrence, an active duty sergeant for the U.S. army. Jan and Clell were married for 29 years, during which time they traveled to all 50 states in the U.S. and 24 forgein countries, until finally settling down in Clell’s home town of Melbourne, Arkansas in 1970. Jan ran for and served as Mayor of Melbourne for four years. Jan and Clell divorced in 1980. Not long after Jan met her second husband, Elmer Peters, during one of her favorite pastimes; square dancing. She married Elmer Peters on September 5, 1981, in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Flippin, Arkansas, where they both lived out the remainder of their days. She enjoyed knitting and quilting and was a founding member of the Ozark Craft Guild. Jan wrote an instruction manual for making her cornshuck dolls. Jan was a long time member of TOPS and KOPS and an avid Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals Fan. She had a passion for angels and at one time had over 200 figurines in her home.
Jan is survived by her two sons, Robert Lawrence of North Little Rock, AR, and Scott (Linda) Lawrence of Sage, AR; four grandchildren, Travis (Laura) Lawrence of Sage, AR, Shawna (Brett) Love and Sondra (Joe) Webb both of Mt. Pleasant, AR and Katelyn Lawrence of North Little Rock, AR and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Clell Lawrence; second husband Elmer Peters; and two brothers, Leland and Floyd Wainscott.
Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, AR, with Robert Lawrence, Scott Lawrence, Travis Lawrence, Brett Love and Joe Webb as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Jan's favorite charity the Wounded Warrior Project.
