A Celebration of Life for Jean Catherine Hoefer of Flippin, Arkansas, will be at 2PM, Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church of Yellville, with Pastor Blake Brinegar officiating. Burial will be in Marion, Indiana at Estates of Serenity in the Hoefer Family Plot.
Jean passed away April 2, 2018, in Springfield, Missouri at the age of 89. She was born December 19, 1928, in Mechanic Falls, Maine, the fourth of the six children of John and Herberta Anne Penley Mitchell. She married Tony Kaustinen and after moving to California they raised four sons. Jean was an active person participating in Cross country snow skiing and snow shoe racing in Maine to mountain hiking and camping in California into her 60's, Jean loved to keep fit. Her love of travel included Finland, Switzerland, Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand as well as the United States. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron.
Jean retired from 23 years as a telephone operator at Feather River Hospital in Paradise CA and moved to Lakeview, AR in 1995. She became active in many civic and church activities. Jean married Phil Hoefer August 22, 2008 moving to Flippin, AR. Motor home traveling became their passion as they toured most of the United States attending Family Motor Coach and Winnebago Rallies, visiting family and seeing interesting landmarks.
A member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Yellville, supporter of the Marion County Senior Center and local Country Music fan, Jean was always interested in family and friends with her frequent phone calls and cards of support. She was a great wife, homemaker and mother to her sons and their families.
Jean is survived by her husband, Phil Hoefer of the home; four sons, Randy (Claudi) Kaustinen & Alex (Mary) Kaustinen of Utah, David (Jill) Kaustinen of CA and Brand (Sandy) Kaustinen of OH; sisters Carolyn Frantz of OK and Joyce Helen of ME; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, Tony Kaustinen & Bill Goeckritz; sisters Lyda Ernst, Lula Meserve and brother, John C. Mitchell III.
