Jennifer D Buchta

February 13, 1963 — December 4, 2023

Jennifer Dedek Buchta of Western Springs, Illinois, age 60, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2023, surrounded by her family at their home in Gassville, Arkansas. Jennifer was a devoted mother to Jonathan and Robert, a loving sister to Collin (Valencia) and Janine Kaliebe (Bill), a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews, and an adoring daughter to Ruth and Roger (late). She was born in Berwyn, Illinois, on February 13, 1963. Jennifer was a happy child, always smiling. She was a bright light and lit up a room when she walked in.

Both professionally and personally, Jennifer had a knack for forging meaningful relationships and improving every organization she was a part of. Everywhere she worked she was recognized for her leadership and results. Starting as a teen, she proudly worked her way through school managing McDonald’s locations, building her unwavering work ethic and warm principles in service to others. She capitalized on this experience and launched a successful career at Old Kent running banks in Chicago and the west suburbs where she also met her former husband, Mark. Years later, Jennifer retired to focus on raising their children and pursue other adventures. She channeled her personality, passion, and competitive nature into training for endurance races and also led spin and body pump classes at the YMCA. She connected with many of her longest and dearest friends during these stages of life. Nothing gave her greater joy than her family and friends, though winning came close…

Despite her extraordinary achievements of completing an Ironman triathlon, the Boston Marathon, and more, her legacy is not in her athletic records but rather in the type of training buddy and teammate she was. Jennifer uplifted and supported others around her. With her infectious optimism, Jennifer served as a confidante and cheerleader to many who were battling cancer or facing other health or personal challenges. She wanted people to be the best version of themself and would support them in any way she could. She was a model neighbor who would lend a hand or share a coffee and chat without hesitation.

Jennifer’s grace and strength will be remembered by all those who had the privilege to know and love her.

A celebration of life will be held in early 2024.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made in Jennifer’s honor to Hospice of the Ozarks.
