Jerry Swanson died Monday, June 29, 2009 in Mountain Home at the age of 79. He was born Tuesday, August 13, 1929 in Long Beach, California, the son of Robert C. and Helen Mason Swanson. He was a United States Marine and fought in the Korean war as a Tank Driver. He became an Orange County Sherriff after returning home to California. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant and was the commander of the Orange County SWAT Team. He married Mary L. Swanson on February 7, 1976 at Las Vegas, Nevada. They retired and moved to Oregon where they got involved with the V.F.W. Jerry was elected to many positions including, Unit Commander, State Commander and Regional Leadership. They moved to Mountain Home to be close to family. Survivors: Jerry Swanson is survived by his Step-son, John (Rosalie) Wilson of Kansas City, Mo, grandchildren, Angela Marie Dupuie, Eric Parsons and Sarah Hilding and great-grandson, Lars Joseph Dupuie who he met for the first time two weeks before he passed and call him his "Little Viking". Preceded in Death by: He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Swanson. Funeral: Services for Jerry Monroe Swanson of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be private. Burial: Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas. Memorials: Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
