A memorial service for Joan Marie Hobbie of Bull Shoals, Arkansas will be 11AM Friday July 8, 2011 at Bull Shoals United Methodist Church. Private burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Joan died June 11, 2011 after a short battle with colon cancer. Joan was born August 30, 1940 at Minneapolis, Minnesota to Richard and Jean Reynolds Culver. She was married to Duane Lee Hobbie for 49 years. Joan worked as a Tumor Registrar within the oncology department. She relocated to Bull Shoals to be near her mother and quickly became a valued member of the community. She volunteered at the Bull Shoals Library and was a member of the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church. Besides her family her passion was singing and she was a member of the Heart of the Hills Choral Group and her church choir. Joan was a member of the exclusive ?Bad Girls? Luncheon Group. Joan is survived by; two daughters, Dawn (Doug) Hamernik of Spring, Texas and Jocelyn (Rick) Gray of Seward, Nebraska; mother, Jean Culver of Bull Shoals, Arkansas; grandchildren Amy Williams (Adam), Christopher Hamernik, Rebecca Hamernik, Cole Gray and Jakob Gray; great grandchild Logan Williams; several nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Duane Hobbie, father Richard Culver Sr. and brother, Richard Culver Jr. Memorials may be made to the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church Music Department or American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Kirby & Family Funeral & Cremation Services.
