Funeral services for Joe Don Farris of Salesville, Arkansas, will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Garland Skidmore officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Joe Don died in Salesville, Arkansas at the age of 74. He was born in Dolph, AR, son of Calvin and Hattie Nichols Faris and was raised by his grandparents, George and Edna Nichols. He graduated from Bethel University in McKinzie, TN in 1960 with a BS degree in education. He was the Salutorian of the 1956 class in Calico Rock. He married Barbara Jean Mitchell August 23, 1963 at Calico Rock and she passed away in 1992. He taught high school English, Biology 1962-1978 and was the first girl's basketball coach at Norfork High School. He then worked at Epoxyn for 30 years. He married Martha Teegarden on June 25, 2009 at Salesville, AR. He was an avid fisherman and guide and loved to teach his students fishing and water sports. He worked for the Corp of Engineers in the summer during his teaching years. Joe Don is survived by his wife, Martha Farris, 2 sons, Jim (Sharon) Farris of Rose Bud, AR and Michael Joe (Julie Lynn) Farris of Calico Rock, AR, 1 daughter, Dianne Leigh (Craig) Cockrum of Gainesville, MO, 2 step-sons, Ernest (Judy) Teegarden and Herman Teegarden both of Old Joe, AR, 1 step-daughter, Rudean ( Rick) Coy of Arkana, AR, 12 grandchildren, Susan Marie Farris, Britney Diane and C.J. Farris, Ellie Barbara and Josh Craig Cockrum, Rekedene Golden, Calvin Coy, Tyrell and Caleb Teegarden, Mitchell Lipe, Kayleen Teegarden and Krystal Slaughter, 2 brothers, Larry Sanders of Mountain Home, AR and Howard Faris of New Market, VA, 5 sisters, Billie Kay (Jim) Foxx of Edgerton, KS, Freda Casteel, Lena Sanders, Brenda (Don) Davenport all of Mountain Home, AR and Rene (Lyle)Trotter of Springdale, AR and his pals, Big Missey, Little Missey, Cookie and Boy. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, wife, Barbara Jean, 1 sister, Lou Fisk. Burial will be in the Pineville Cemetery, Pineville, AR with Jim Hanaford, Sid Pickens, Carl Schuh, Dennis Lamb, David and Doug Small as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks. Arrangements are by Kirby & Family Funeral & Cremation Services.
