Joe Weldon Pullen, 89, of Oskaloosa, KS died at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital, January 20, 2018. He was born November 10, 1928 in Rockwall County, Texas, the son of James and Rosa Belle Peppers Pullen. He graduated as valedictorian in 1946 from Pittsburgh High School, in Pittsburg, TX, he attended Paris Junior College in Paris TX, and went onto receive his BS in Science from Sam Houston State University. He served his country proudly in the US Air Force. He worked as an agriculture Research Chemist / Agronomist for Spencer Chemicals in Pittsburg, KS., Gulf Research and Development Company, in Kansas City, and BASF in Parsippany, NJ. He was a member of the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church, and a member of the Combat Air Museum in Topeka, KS. One of Joe’s great joys was spending time with his family. He married Mary Lou Yocum on July 26, 1953. Married for 40 years, she preceded him in death on March 20, 1994
Survivors include three sons, Daniel Pullen of Tallahassee, FL., Paul Pullen of Belvue, KS., and Brian Pullen of Oskaloosa, KS., and one daughter, Pamela Pullen of Tonganoxie, KS., 8 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be 11AM Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church, visitation is one hour prior to services 10-11AM. A Family Graveside Service for Joe Weldon Pullen will be Thursday, January 24, 2018, at Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Topeka Combat Air Museum.
