John Raymond Gilbert

August 6, 1943 — January 29, 2016

A Memorial Service for John Raymond Gilbert of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Randy Ludwig officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Ozark V.F.W. Post #3246 and United States Air Force Honor Guards. Masonic Rites will be by the Robert Burns Masonic Lodge in Gainesville, Missouri.

John passed away January 28, 2016, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 72. He was born August 6, 1943, in Alton, Illinois, the son of Raymond and Vivian Johnson Gilbert. He married Martha Bunker on June 24, 1994, in Cedar Falls, Iowa and was a State Trooper for the Iowa State Patrol for 32 years. John was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. John lived in Mountain Home since 2002, moving from Cedar Falls, Iowa. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mountain Home and Elks Club. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. He enjoyed motorcycling, fishing, NASCAR and old movies; especially John Wayne.

John is survived by his wife, Marti Gilbert of Mountain Home, AR; two sons, Tom (Jen) Gilbert of Waterloo, IA and Rob Gilbert of North Hollywood, CA; stepson, Troy Campbell of Mountain Home, AR; two stepdaughters, Sherri Krouse of Gilbert, AZ and Shelli (Marc) Mullins of Lenexa, KS; two sisters, Pat (Gary) Bernau of Algona, IA and Martha (Wayne) Fuestenau of Whittemore, IA; seven grandchildren, Brandon (Melissa) Winkey of Ames, IA, Jenna Krouse of Gilbert, AZ, Hunter Krouse of Gilbert, AZ, Elana Williams of Waterloo, IA, Zoe Williams of Waterloo, IA and Madilyn Campbell of Mountain Home, AR; four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Jackson, Benton and Braxton Winkey and the beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mike Gilbert and grandson, Chase Winkey.

Memorials may be made to Backpack Food 4 Kids at First United Methodist Church or the Shriner's Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
