John Thomas Grady was born in Iberia on January 29, 1924. He was a son of the late Walter and Martha "Queen" (Wilson) Grady. He married Eva Jo Jones on Arril 27, 1946 in Iberia. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked for 35 years as an Adjutant General Publications Officer at Fort Leonard Wood where he received the 5th Army Award for his work. He also worked as a full-time barber from 1947 until 1955 and then worked part time for many years. He was an active member of the Iberia United Methodist Church since 1946, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Class Teacher, Board Chairman, and many other jobs. He was a Republican Committeeman for many years and volunteered his time helping nursing home residents vote absentee. He served as President of the Miller County Senior Fund Board and President of the C.M.A.A. Senior Advisory Board. He was a former City councilman and Iberia School District Board member. He was an active member of the Iberia Masonic Lodge #410 AF and AM and the Iberia Order of the Eastern Star. John Thomas Grady passed away at his daughter's home in Mountain Home, Arkansas on Sunday, March 13, 2005, at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 14 days. Survivors: Wife of 59 years, Eva Jo Grady; three daughters, Sandy Jo Teeple and husband Jim of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Sue Hurt and husband Jerry of Marysville, Indiana, and Sharon Czarnecki and husband Michael of Nevada; one brother, Bill Grady and wife Rosemary of Granite City, Illinois; one sister, Ruby Anderson of Granite City, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jonn Eric Wade and wife Lainie, Heather Jo Phillips and husband Jason, Jerry Hurt II and wife Louann, and Kerry Hurt; four step-grandchildren, Vickie Thurston, Jill Ann Hall, Michael C. Czarnecki, and Patrick Czarnecki; four great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren Preceded in Death by: six brothers and one sister Visitation: 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.
