Joyce West

Joyce Christine West of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Care Manor in Mountain Home at the age of 85. 

Joyce was born December 18, 1939 in Raton, New Mexico to Arthur and Nellie (McClellan) Gleaves, and grew up in Vallejo, California. In June of 1957 she married her love, Leonard Vairon West, a young sailor who became a career veteran of the U.S. Navy. Joyce was a good mother raising their children. She enjoyed sewing and cooking. She was always an avid reader. She worked for Walmart many years until she retired in 2017. She enjoyed being with her family, feeding birds, growing peaches, playing with her granddogs Hazel and Cisco, taking long drives, and enjoying the beauty of the northern California coast. 

Joyce is survived by her son, David (Patti) West of Buenos Aires, Argentina; son, Michael (Kim) West of Mountain Home, Arkansas; daughter, Charlene (Allen) Dolby of Silverdale, Washington; and daughter, Patricia (David) Covarrubias of Suisun City, California; as well as, 15 beloved grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, JoNell Smith of Poquoson, Virginia; Doris McDermott of Carson City, Nevada; and James Gleaves of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her baby daughter, JoNell; husband, Leonard V. West; and brother, Leroy Gleaves.
