Katherine Clara Hogan (née Ruppert) passed away in her Midway Arkansas home July 16th 2021 cared for by two of her seven children and the wonderful ladies from Home Instead and Hospice. She was 100 years old, proud of it, and the last of her Ruppert generation. Katherine and her husband Gene Hogan (deceased) retired to Arkansas 40 years ago from Naperville, Illinois. Both grew up in Iowa City and graduated from the University of Iowa.
Besides enjoying the laid back life on Howard Creek, Katherine loved going out on Bull Shoals Lake on the pontoon, golfing and playing bridge. She volunteered at the Little Bit Used shop which supports the Bull Shoals fire department and sewed quilts with the Christ by the Lake Lutheran ladies. Up until a few weeks ago she was laying out and sewing baby quilts for less fortunate mothers. Katherine loved to garden, nurtured multitudes of African violets and was an avid recycler. Remember the three "R's", reduce, reuse, recycle! To keep her mind sharp she played scrabble, did the jumbles and watched Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
When asked how she succeeded in living so long she said "eat right, sleep well and have good children to take care of you." Amen. She is survived by 5 of her children, 13 grandchildren and 18 1/2 great grandchildren. She would want to leave you with these words: waste not want not, live simply so others can simply live. Thank you Katherine.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in October.
