A Funeral Service for Kathern Baker Severn, of Gamaliel, Arkansas, will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 26, 2021, by Kirby & Family Funeral Home at Maynard Bend Cemetery (intersection of State Hwy 101 N & Baxter CR 806), Gamaliel, Arkansas.
Kathern passed away January 21, 2021, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 89. She was born May 14, 1931, in Macksville, Kansas, the daughter of Charles L. Baker and Mary H.A. Hylton Baker. She married Herbert M. Severn on August 9, 1953 in Wichita, Kansas. She was a fantastic cook which she learned from feeding large field crews growing up. She played the Cello in high school and loved music and dancing. Some of her favorite pastimes were traveling to Hawaii to visit her friends, going to yard sales, auctions and enjoying life on the farm with family, friends and most of all her grandchildren. She was a great host, incredible homemaker, expert seamstress and enjoyed lots of time in the garden with her roses and hummingbirds. Kathern and Herbert lived in Gamaliel since the 1980's, moving from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She was a devoted grandmother, beloved mother and sister and a dedicated wife. Her family will miss her huge heart, abundant kindness, uplifting spirit and her charming “Baker” personality.
Kathern is survived by her son, Steven and his wife Monica Severn of Pembroke Pines, FL two daughters, Cindy DeBergh of Gamaliel, AR and Belinda Badalamento of Claremont, FL; four grandchildren, Amanda, Brittani, Brandon and Danielle and one great-grandchild, Brooke.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Mary Baker and eleven brothers and sisters; Wilma, Charles, Hazel, Letha, Clifford “Cip”, Chester “Chet”, Elna, Emil, William “Bill”, Arlyn, and Ada Baker.
