A private gathering of friends will be held for Lawrence "Lawrie" Schiro. He died July 25, 2010 at his residence. Lawrie was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and was one of 5 children and of Italian heritage. He was a member of the United States Navy and a long standing member of the VFW here in Mountain Home. Lawrie married his beloved Wilma L. Schiro at age 25 and was happily married for 61 years until her passing in 2007. He worked for the City of Chicago as a superintendent of snow removal on Chicago's Northside, until 1986 when he and Wilma built their retirement home in Mountain Home, AR. During his time in Mountain Home he made many long time good friends, and loved living here. Any one who knew Lawrie will remember his smiling eyes and his happy whistle. He was a kind and gentle, devoted person. I'm sure many would agree that " he is the nicest man you ever met." Everyone loved Lawrie. He is loved by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, family members, and dear friends, including Joie Handley who has been a devoted friend and companion. He will always be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. At Uncle Lawrie's request, there will be no formal service. In lieu of such, anyone wishing to, may make a donation to Hospice of the Ozarks in his name. Arrangements are by Kirby & Family Funeral & Cremation Services.
