Leta Ferne Shulick was born March 10, 1924, in Beason, Illinois. She was the daughter of William Ples Brown and Alice Aletha Helwig Newkirk, originally of Hot Springs. She had lived in Mountain Home, Arkansas since moving from San Antonio/New Braunfels, Texas, in 2001. She was born to the Methodist faith and spent many years in the Baptist Church. Leta Ferne Shulick passed away in Mountain Home, Arkansas on March 30, 2006, at the age of 82. Survivors: Three sons, Robert Grant Leard (wife Melodie) of Mountain Home, Arkansas; Ernest Lee Leard (wife Carol) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Peter James Shulick of Houston Texas; one daughter, Rita Marie Shulick of North Richmond Hills, Texas; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren Preceded in Death by: Her parents; first husband, Fred Alvin Leard; three brothers, Sherman Corder Brown, Otis Barton Brown and James Jackson (Jack) Brown; three sisters, Luna Sue O'Meara, Ruth Rademaker, Lola Louise Stewart, and her son, Michael Franklin Leard Funeral: Private Burial: Interment will occur at a later date at Woodbery Cemetery in Madill, Oklahoma where her first husband and son were laid to rest.
