Margaret Bangert, long-time resident of Midway, Arkansas, passed away on January 26, 2024 at age 95. Marg was born in Ashland, Wisconsin on April 27, 1928 to George and Anna Cristy. She lived previously in Hayward, Wisconsin, where she worked at radio station WHSM, and Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where she worked at Pope & Talbot Paper Company.
Marg was very active during her retirement. She was a member of Twin Lakes Baptist Church in Mountain Home, Arkansas, participating in several mission trips to the Amazon region of Brazil. She was an American Red Cross disaster relief volunteer, helping at the World Trade Center site after 9/11, and in many other states following wildfires, hurricanes, floods and tornadoes. She was a member of the Baxter County Citizen’s Emergency Relief Team, which was often the first group of aid workers onsite following a local disaster. She held several leadership positions in the Audubon Society of North Central Arkansas. Marg was also a long-time volunteer at the Hospice of the Ozarks. Marg received countless awards and commendations for her volunteer activities.
She is survived by sons, Robert Vallem of Kennewick, WA and Jim (Christina) Vallem of Ann Arbor, MI; and grandchildren, Sarah Vallem-Kearfott and David Vallem. She was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence and Ray Cristy.
Burial will be next to her parents in Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward, Wisconsin.
