Marguerite Ethel Taylor

In celebration of the life of Marguerite E. Taylor, we will have a family graveside memorial at 10:30am Saturday, July 30 at Pond Creek Cemetery, Alamo, Tennessee. Marguerite was born in Ames, Iowa on September 22, 1935 to Floyd and Ethel Hemming.
Marguerite was the matriarch of a very close and loving family. The great faith she lived is reflected each day in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Marguerite married J. Franklyn Taylor on February 14, 1956; the start of a marriage that for 58 years reflected the love, mercy, and forgiveness that only comes from Christ. Marguerite is proceeded in death by her parents; husband and her older sister, Betty Nicholson. She is survived by son Neal and wife Becky Taylor, granddaughter Serena and husband JD Howell with great-grandsons Turley & Rhette Howell, great-granddaughter Annabelle Howell; grandson Jared Taylor and wife Tiffany Taylor, great-grandsons Henry & John Taylor, son Galen and wife Lezlie Taylor, grandson Brennan Taylor, granddaughters Tricia Taylor, Brooke Taylor, daughter Joilynn and husband Junior Stackhouse, grandson David Stackhouse and wife Abbie, great-granddaughter Kinsey Stackhouse, granddaughter Lynsey and husband Kurtis Browning; honorary grandson Adam Frantz, nieces Debbie Gentry, Peggy Holcombe, Patricia Duff as well as numerous dear friends.
Marguerite attended Prescott (AZ) High School and graduated from Chula Vista (CA) High School. She then attended San Diego State College. Marguerite was instrumental in helping Franklyn earn a Bachelor of Arts from San Diego State College and a Masters of Theology form Claremont School of Theology. After which they began the adventure of serving many different churches -Orange United Methodist Church in Orange County, California, Nestor United Methodist Church in Imperial Beach, California, and Trinity United Methodist Church in Yuma, Arizona, Hermitage United Methodist Church and Wheatland United Methodist Church - where they together helped lead a merger into Pomme de Terre United Methodist Church. She also worked as a Teachers Aid in the Yuma, Arizona High School system. She and Franklyn were owners and operators of two small restaurants and a motel in Hickory County, Missouri. She taught aerobic dance & exercise classes for many years - fitness and nutrition were very important to her. Marguerite & Franklyn retired in June of 1997 to travel in their RV; making many trips to south Texas, Arizona and around the country before settling near one of their sons in Tyler, Texas. Marguerite was a part of bringing Andy’s Frozen Custard to Tyler; where Marguerite was referred to as “Grandma Taylor” by many of the employees and loyal customers. Marguerite & Franklyn served several summers at the Mercy Ships base in Lindale. They attended and greatly enjoyed Bascom United Methodist Church.
Marguerite and Franklyn enjoyed great adventures throughout their life. Marguerite impacted many lives. She helped Franklyn serve as a youth pastor leading many retreats and camps. They helped organize multiple trips to Israel. She was an incredible mother who invested great amounts of time, energy and prayer to her family. She lived and taught life lessons at every opportunity; leading us to love and serve others, giving us the confidence to set and pursue goals, to take the initiative and to strive to make a difference in this world. She was an exceptional cook; who passed on the love of cooking to her children. She enjoyed country western dancing, water-skiing, swimming under the full moon and beautiful sunsets; Lake Powell, Arizona was one of her favorite locations. Her faith and commitment to Christ were obvious - she demonstrated an authentic Christian walk each day. Though she will be greatly missed, the legacy of her faith and intentional living has been passed on in a mighty way. She was a tremendous example to all.
