Marjorie Coffland

November 26, 1923 — March 19, 2013

Marjorie Buel Coffland (née Morse) was born November 26, 1923 in Quilcene, Washington, the youngest child of Alice Lee and Charles Jacob Morse. She had an idyllic childhood in a small town surrounded by family and friends, playing the piano and singing, dancing, camping, digging geoducks from the bay, laughing with her friends, and being the town?s favorite blonde. At the ripe old age of 18 she ran off to Kirkland to get a job. She stayed in a boarding house, where she met her husband, Ernest Ancel Coffland, who used to lend her his car on snowy winter mornings just because he thought it was right. They raised two children, Marilee Alice and Robert Joseph. Ernest had the wanderlust, and they moved often, first throughout Washington, then to California, then Texas, and finally back to California, where he died in 1993. In 1995 she moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas, to live near her daughter and son-in-law. She labored as a telephone operator, housewife, mother, secretary, apartment manager, store manager, and flight assistant before finally retiring as an inveterate nibbler of bon bons and avid follower of some of the most ridiculous television programs ever, as well as an enthusiastic fan of the bluegrass music so prevalent in the Ozarks. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert, and her brother, Cecil Morse.

She passed from us March 19, 2013, and is survived by her sister, Lura Mae Shafer; nephews Michael and Jeffrey Shafer and their children, of Quilcene; her daughter, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Though she hated the nosy gossip and petty bickerings of churches, she loved the Lord, and was no doubt welcomed with open arms the night she joined his flock in heaven.

She and her husband, resting together in the same urn, will be interred at the Quilcene Cemetery.
