Marjorie Rose Patton Cole, 83, died March 13, 2008 at Pleasant Valley Living Center in Little Rock after a lengthy illness. Born February 13, 1925 in Memphis, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Russell Homer and Alma Rose Patton of Jonesboro. Marjorie graduated in 1941 as valedictorian from Jonesboro High School and attended National Park College in Forest Glen, Maryland for one year. She then transferred to Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where she majored in Spanish and was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. Marjorie and Richard married February 24, 1945 and moved to Jonesboro the following year, where she was well known as a good cook, rose gardener, Junior Auxiliary member and Girl Scout troop leader. The family moved in 1966 to Mountain Home, where she joined Richard in managing the family's boat business, Twin Lakes Marine, for the next 12 years. After retiring in 1978, they traveled widely in their recreational vehicle, including frequent stays in Chokoloskee, Florida. Marjorie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mountain Home. Survivors: Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Richard Shipley Cole; two daughters, Patricia Cole Plafcan and Nancy Cole, of Little Rock; one brother, Russell Homer Patton, Jr., of Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Cole Plafcan and Claire Plafcan Denham, and three great-grandsons, William, Samuel and Paul Plafcan, all of Little Rock. Preceded in Death by: Her infant son, Shipley Cole, preceded her in death. Funeral: Memorial service 1:00 Monday, March 17, 2008 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ed Matthews officiating. Burial: Emtombment at Kirby's Tucker Memorial Mausoleum, Mountain Home, AR Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church, 605 W. Sixth St., Mountain Home, AR 72653.
