A Celebration of Life with Military Honors for Mark Anthony Dobbs, 57, of Bull Shoals, will be 11AM Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the Upper Pavilion 2 in Bull Shoals-White River State Park located on Highway 178 in Lakeview, AR. Mark died June 16, 2013, following a tragic car accident.
Mark was the first-born son of Wiley Gale and Shirley Smith Dobbs. He was born in San Diego, California on September 6th, 1955. Mark graduated from Walnut Ridge High School in 1973. Mark was enlisted in the Navy for six years before enrolling at Arkansas State University, where he completed both a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Administration and a Master's Degree in Business Administration. Mark graduated Magna Cum Laude, was a President's Scholar and Phi Kappa Phi.
Mark married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Cheryl, in January 1974 and they began their life together as a Navy family. Mark and Cheryl lived in many places, including California, Tennessee, Virginia and Texas, through his career with the Navy and built many life long friendships. Mark was awarded multiple medals and commendations while serving in the Navy and achieved the rank of Captain before he retired after 28 years of service.
After he retired, Mark and Cheryl moved to Bull Shoals to live on the lake that they had enjoyed with family, children and grandchildren for over 30 years. He had many hobbies in retirement, including fishing, spending time with his children and grandchildren, writing, and painting. He had recently published two books, Fracked! and Navigating the Female Universe! Fracked! was based around the community he loved and where he was very involved. Mark spearheaded the visioning project for the city and joined Bull Shoals-Lakeview Rotary in 2007. Since joining Rotary, he became a Paul Harris Fellow, Rotarian of the Year, Club President 2010-11, Assistant District Governor and most recently was chosen as District Governor Elect for 2015-16. He was a proud Rotarian.
Mark was a devoted and loving husband, a proud and supportive father, an adoring Poppa and a true friend and patriot. He will be missed more than words could describe but is alive in our hearts and memories forever!
Mark is survived by his wife, Cheryl Dobbs of Bull Shoals, AR; two daughters, Kristi Dobbs Christensen (Lennard) & Stephanie Dobbs Miller (Ryan) and grandchildren, Kieren & Cord Christensen all of Texas; mother, Shirley Dobbs of Springdale, AR; sister, Susan Gurley (Rick) of Huntsville, AR; and brothers, Danny Dobbs (Beverly) W. Monroe, LA and Marty Dobbs (Shawn) of Cleveland, TN.
