Mary Elizabeth Allen, age 78, of Lakeview, Arkansas, passed away in her home after a long illness on November 21, 2023.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1945 to Quentin and Claudia Wilson, and was the second of seven children. Mary Elizabeth attended Foreman High School in Chicago, Illinois where she graduated in 1964.
In July 1964, Mary Elizabeth met the love of her life Frank E. Allen of Park Forest, Illinois while at a church youth social, and they were married in July 1967 at First Baptist Church, Park Forest, IL. Mary and her husband Frank lived for 42 years in Park Forest before retiring and moving to Lakeview, Arkansas in 2009. Mary Elizabeth spent most of her married life as a stay-at-home mom raising her two daughters, but after her children had grown, she worked in various clerical positions in an office environment. Mary Elizabeth Allen was regularly active in her former church, Fellowship Baptist Church of South Chicago Heights, Illinois, working in the bus ministry, Vacation Bible School, Children’s Church and children’s Sunday school, as well as in the Women’s Missionary Union, and when her children were younger, she worked with the Brownies and Girl Scouts as a cookie mom. At First Baptist Church in Bull Shoals, she served in the Ladies’ Bible Study group, sang in the choir, and worked with the children until the advent of her illness.
Known to her grandchildren as “Nina”, Mary Elizabeth Allen was preceded in death by daughter Heather Elizabeth Allen; parents, Quentin P. and Claudia Wilson; younger brother, Mark Wilson and younger sister, Phyllis E. Wilson. She is survived by husband, Frank E. Allen; younger sisters, Martha S. Backus and Althea D. Moon; older brother, Quentin Patrick Wilson; younger brother, Paul T. Wilson; daughters, Katherine M. Myers, Colleen L. Hazlett, and grandchildren, Donald R. Myers, Austin J. Myers, Samuel A. Myers, and Joshua E. Myers, as well as three great-grandchildren. She also left behind her beloved Kitty, “Teacup” in the loving care of her husband Frank.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11AM Monday, November 27, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Bull Shoals, Arkansas. Donations to First Baptist Church, Bull Shoals would be greatly appreciated.
