Mary Genevieve Bouras

We are saddened to share that our mother Mary Genevieve Bouras passed away on November 23, 2023 at the age of 91.

Like the quilts she lovingly sewed, her life was a patchwork of beautiful moments. She was the thread that gave strength to her children and bound her family together. “I need to help them”, were often the words she would express whenever she heard of a tragedy or need. She lovingly gave quilts to babies born in the hospital; Hospice to comfort to the sick; Veteran’s, in appreciation of their service; children in foster care; Soldiers overseas, and to those who experienced a loss across the nation. She was a proud member of Material Girls and Hill and Hollow Quilt Guild. From her hands to our hearts, her quilts are an expression of her great love that we will continue to treasure.

The only child of William and Harriett (Bergl) Clelland, she was born January 20, 1932 in Illinois. As a young lady she married Donald Richard Svehla Sr who passed away in 1988. They owned and operated Lake Shore Resort and Restaurant in Lakeview, Arkansas. She was known by many for great cooking talents at “Don and Mary’s” Lakeshore Café. Later in life she married, Chuck Sundquist who passed then Russ Bouras also deceased. Mary lived in Arkansas since moving from Naperville, Illinois in 1978. She was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Hill and Hollow Quilt Guild, and Material Girls.

Mary is survived by her son, William James Svehla of Lakeview, AR; three daughters, Nancy Sue Svehla of Yellville, AR, Cheryl Marie Thompson of Midway, AR, and Laura Marie Williams of Mammoth Springs, AR; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Richard Svehla Sr; spouse, Chuck Sundquist; spouse, Russ Bouras; and son, Donald Richard Svehla, Jr.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 4:30 pm until 7:30 pm, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Thursday, November 30, 2023 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas, with Michael Hullett, Matthew Collins, Jacob Mathis, Anthony Ordaz, Bryce Collins, and Anson Babb as pallbearers.
