Mary Alice Nicely

Mary A. Nicely, a longtime resident of Mountain Home, AR, passed peacefully on March 3, 2025. She was born on February 29, 1940 to John J. Hughes and Ruth D. Hughes in Magnolia, AR. She is survived by her spouse and soulmate of 50 years, Paul J. Nicely.


Mary was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She lived a very adventurous life from horse shows, race horses, raising longhorn cattle to hunting in the western states. She was an expert seamstress, quilter and enjoyed cooking. Many great meals and conversations were enjoyed at her table. Her heart was always open and she was a friend to anyone that needed someone in their life.

 

Mary was preceded in death by her father, John J. Hughes, her mother Ruth D. Hughes and grandson Zachary M. Mahon.


Mary is survived by her two children, son William L.Young and his wife Lynn M.Young, of Magnolia, AR, daughter Candice L. Vaughn and her husband Lonnie D. Vaughn of Nolensville, TN and three step-daughters, Paula D. Wilson and her husband Kenneth E. Wilson of Covington, LA; Vicki L. Nicely of Covington, LA; Valerie D. Foust and her husband Joe K. Foust of Springhill, FL.


Surviving Sisters: Patricia A. Hancock, and her husband Earl Hancock of Ocala, FL and Patsy Lindsey, of Atlanta,Texas.

 

Surviving Grandchildren: Katelyn P. Pousson and husband Brett Pousson; Kayle R. Moczygemba and husband Anton Moczygemba; Trey J. Monceaux; Brandon K. Monceaux; Stephanie A. Clayton; Joshua D. Kalena and wife Lindsay B. Kalena; Alexis B. Wilson; Kenneth E. Wilson, III; Joseph R. Mahon; Cory M. Mahon; Jason L. Foust and wife Jenna B. Foust; Jennifer L. Miller and husband Jeffrey Miller; and Shawn Foust.


Surviving Great Grandchildren: Davin Kalena; Cohen Kalena; Henley Kalena; Grayson Bulloch; Hayden Mahon; Brady Mahon; Dylan Foust.


Per Mary’s wishes, there will be no public service. She will be laid to rest at Antioch East Baptist Church Cemetery in Magnolia, AR, surrounded by her loved ones.
