A Memorial Service for Mary Zumbaum, 83, of Lakeview, AR will be 3PM Wednesday June 4, 2014, at Christ By the Lake Lutheran Church in Bull Shoals, AR with Reverend Mike Clark officiating. Family will greet friends from 2PM until time of service. Mary died at her home on May 31, 2014, surrounded by her family.
Mary was born October 14, 1930, to in Augusta, KS to Frank and Mina Pond Bohannon. She married Harold “Barney” Zumbaum August 17, 1963, at Oxford, Kansas. Mary worked as a line electrician at Beech Aircraft for 26 years. She earned two “Work Simplification” citations while working on the production of the MGM-1070 Target Missile in 1973 and 1974. Mary was a life member of Hoevel-Barnett Post #1341 Ladies Auxiliary and Christ by the Lake Lutheran Church. Mary lived in Lakeview for 19 years, moving from Wichita, Kansas. Mary and the love of her life, Barney, spent many happy hours together in a boat with fishing rods in hand and their beloved bulldog, Tink, on the seat between them. She was a gifted seamstress, quilter and cook. Mary passed down her skills at crafting and cooking to her daughter, Linda and granddaughter, Michaela; sadly, one of Mary’s greatest disappointments in life was that both women are failures at making gravy. Mary had a kind heart, sweet spirit and an independent attitude. She lived life to the fullest of her ability and spent her happiest days enjoying her family, friends and the beautiful Ozark landscape.
Mary is survived by daughter, Linda Johnson (Dean) of Neodesha, KS; brother, Roscoe (Sarah) Bohannon of Andrews, TX; sisters, Carrie (Leon) Briggs of Springfield, MO and Virginia Dale of Vancouver, WA; seven grandchildren, Michaela, Mike, Roy, Tabatha, Tori, Sean and Kevin, eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her husband; son, Butch; three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
