Melanio C. Perez was born January 8, 1930 in Puerto Rico to Nicolas and Pilar Caamano Perez. He moved to Mountain Home in Feb. 1994 from Northlake, Illinois. Mel worked as a school custodian for the Cotter School system. Mel Married Darlene Larsen August 26, 1996 at Cotter. He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran and a Catholic. Mel Perez passed away on September 19, 2006 at the Hospice House in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 11 days. Survivors: Wife Darlene Perez of Mountain Home, one daughter Shirley Perez of Charleston, South Carolina, two grandsons, David Colburn of Eureka, Illinois and Matt Colburn of Charleston, South Carolina, six great grandchildren, Derek, Brandon, Owen, Madisen, Cannon and Kaylen and all the kids at the Cotter Elementary School. Preceded in Death by: Parents. Visitation: 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral: Funeral Services will be at 3:00 P.M. Friday, September 22, 2006 at the Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mike Howell officiating. Burial: Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery with the North Central Arkansas Veteran's Council, Alley-White American Legion Post # 52 Honor Guard providing Military Honors. Memorials: Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House Honorary Bearers: Steven Dewey, Tom Perucca, David Colburn, Russell Dewey, Gary Lee, Kevin Knott and Wayne Schreiber Active Bearers: Matt Colburn, Brad McGee, Jeff McLean, Sandy Strong, Don Marler and James Larsen. Additional Notes: Mel enjoyed raising chickens, his trips to Tunica, Mississipi and Bowling.
