A Celebration of Life for Monty Blue Maddox of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 22, 2015, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Sam Bailey officiating.
Monty passed away October 16, 2015, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 80. He was born April 17, 1935, in McPherson, Kansas, the son of Howard and Leila Gurely Maddox. He married JoAnn Huslig on May 19, 1978, in Salina, Kansas and worked in Vocational Rehabilitation. Monty was a Airman 1st Class for the U.S. Air Force. He lived in Mountain Home since 2006, moving from Springfield, Oregon. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and past President of the Emerald Empire Gun Club in Springfield, Oregon. Monty was an NRA instructor and instructed many people on gun safety and shooting sports, and was awarded several national titles in competitive rifle shooting. Monty was described as a multi dimensional man with many interests. He had two master's degrees, was an avid reader who loved to research and write manuals, travel, and spend time outdoors. Monty was also a skilled woodworker, making furniture, guns and even a canoe.
Monty is survived by his wife, JoAnn Maddox of Mountain Home, AR; 4 children; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Pam) Maddox of Spokane, WA, and sister, Vicki (Floyd) Kelley of Edmond, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild.
Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas. Military Honors will be provided by the Ozark V.F.W. Post #3246 and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guards.
