Nicholas James Althauser of Midway, Arkansas, passed away January 15, 2021, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 71. He was born January 4, 1950, in Fostoria, Ohio, the son of Karl and Jennie Bacon Althauser. After graduating from the University of Missouri - Columbia, he spent his career as a mechanical engineer for Black and Veatch in Overland Park, KS. He married Deborah Phillips on January 9, 2005, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Nicholas lived in Midway since moving from Pleasant Hill, Missouri, in 2012. He enjoyed woodworking, fly fishing, golfing, playing guitar, and listening to music. His kind and gentle demeanor was exemplified through his golf swing and fly cast.
Nicholas is survived by his wife, Deborah Althauser of Midway, AR; son, Andrew (Meri) Althauser, of Missoula, MT; daughter, Katherine Thorson of Marseilles, IL; son, Nicholas (Sararose) Althauser, Jr. of Pleasant Hill, MO; two step-sons, Brian (Danielle Cheche) Phillips of Lynnwood, WA and Andrew (Courtney Johnson) Phillips of Seattle, WA; brother, Don (Anne) Althauser of Herman, MO; and eight grandchildren, Ellie, Macy, Cooper, Avery, Mason, Porter, Lyla, and Walker.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Barbara Althauser.
