Omer "Omar" Don Crafton of Lakeview, Arkansas, passed away April 21, 2024, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 77. He was born March 29, 1947, in Metropolis, Illinois, the son of Omer R and Velma Pitt Crafton. Omar joined the U.S. Air Force in 1967, serving two tours in Vietnam. He served as a boom operator and a member of the Stand Eval team on KC135, refueling aircrafts. Omar also participated in the Iran Hostages Conflict in 1980, Grenada in 1983, Panama Invasion in 1989, and Operation Desert Storm in 1991. He dedicated 24 years to the U.S. Air Force before his retirement in 1991. Following his military career, Omar was committed to his community as a deputy sheriff for 15 years. He married Dorothy Washer on July 2, 2007, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple moved to Lakeview shortly after being married. Omar and Dorothy loved to travel together on their motorcycles. He was an active member of the North Arkansas Retreads Motorcycle Club since 2009 and was one of the Directors of the Gateway Regional Retreads.
Omar is survived by his wife, Dorothy Crafton of Lakeview, AR; children, Chris (Valerie) Crafton, and Tania Crafton; stepson, Andrew (Stephanie) Firesheets; grandchildren Chance Crafton, Sydney Crafton Metoyer, Matt Davis, Josh Davis, and Victoria Firesheets; and great-grandchild, Elliot Metoyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life for Omar will be 3:00 pm, Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home in Mountain Home, AR, with Pastor Andrew Firesheets officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force and Alley-White American Legion Post #52 Honor Guards.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Kidney Fund, or a veterans association such as; the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion.
