Pansy Puckette

Pansy Mae Puckette was born June 13, 1917 in Magnolia, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Thomas Otis and Arrie Wilkerson Puckette. She graduated from Magnolia High School in 1934. She obtained an A.A. degree from Southern Arkansas University in 1936. She received her B.A. degree from Henderson State University in 1938, with a dual major in mathematics and English. She received her M.A. degree in 1947 from George Peabody College for Teachers, with a major in mathematics, and minor in English. She also attended the University of Arkansas in 1948, 1949, 1962, 1966, 1969 and 1970, with a major in guidance. She also attended Michigan State University the summer of 1950, with a major in guidance; and Arkansas State University the summer of 1972, with a major in guidance. Miss Puckette was a high school mathematics teacher at Rison Public Schools from 1938 to 1941, a high school mathematics teacher at Blytheville Public Schools from 1941 to 1942; a high school mathematics teacher at Magnolia Public Schools from 1942 to 1947; a high school counselor at Magnolia Public Schools from 1947 to 1967; Coordinator of Guidance Services at Magnolia Public Schools from 1967 to 1982; Coordinator of Guidance Services at Magnolia Public Schools the first semester of 1982 to 1983; then, the second semester, she was Interim Superintendent of Schools in Magnolia. She was Coordinator of Guidance Services at Magnolia Public Schools from 1983 to 1984, and in 1984 Miss Puckette was Coordinator of Administrative Services at Magnolia Public Schools. Miss Puckette was chairman of the Arkansas Teacher Retirement System Board, and member and past president of the following: Arkansas Education Association, Magnolia Education Association and Arkansas School Counselors Association. She was a member of the American Association for Counseling and Development and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was a former member of the Arkansas Council on Teacher Education and Certification. Miss Puckette was chairman of the Magnolia Housing Authority Board of Trustees, a member and past president of Magnolia Business and Professional Women's Club, member of Magnolia First United Methodist Church administrative board, former member and past president of the Magnolia Branch American Association of University Women, former member of League of Women Voters and former board member of Columbia County Cancer Society. Miss Puckette was published in the Journal of Arkansas Education, Practices of Associated Public Schools, The Daily Banner News and Columbia County Observer. She was also director of the Career Education Project, Magnolia Public Schools, 1972 to 1974; consultant on Career Education in Arkansas, Texas and Georgia; and one of the proposal writers for a cooperative service center for Southwest Arkansas, now the George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. Miss Puckette lived in Magnolia, Arkansas prior to moving to Mountain Home, June 1, 2002. She was a member the T.L. Stitchery Group and Baxter County Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Magnolia and Mountain Home. Pansy Mae Puckette passed away at Baxter Regional Medical Center on May 11, 2005, at the age of 87 years, 10 months, and 28 days. Survivors: Two nieces, Nancy Phillips of Flippin, Arkansas and Courtney Jane Martin of Houston, Texas; three great-nephews; four great-nieces and eight great-great nieces and nephews Preceded in Death by: Parents; a brother, Samuel Courtney and a niece, Patricia Blailock Funeral: Memorial services for Pansy Mae Puckette of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 16, 2005 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Russell R.
