Phyllis Pearson Hamrick, 96, a long-time resident of the Kanawha Valley, W.Va. died on March 8, 2007 in Mountain Home, Arkansas, where she resided since 2001. Mrs. Hamrick was the youngest daughter of the late Effie Morris Pearson and Creed Judson Pearson, a prominent real estate developer and banker in St. Albans, W.Va. during the early part of the last century. In 1930, she married Dr. Russell Shelton Hamrick, a well-known physician who at one time owned and operated a small hospital on Main Street in St. Albans. Dr. Hamrick died in 1956. Following the death of her husband, Phyllis was employed by the Mountain Laurel Council of Girl Scouts. In 1969, she moved to Danville, VA, where she became the director of housekeeping services for Danville Memorial Hospital. She retired in 1975 and returned to St. Albans, where she resumed her membership at First Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Women's Club of St. Albans, Thursday Literary Club, Pilot Club and the St. Albans Historical Society. She was proud to have had the opportunity to live in two of St. Albans' historic homes. The spring, 1995 issue of Goldenseal Magazine featured an article about her rich and busy life. Her love of nature inspired an interest in gardening and environmental issues in her children and grandchildren. Phyllis enjoyed keeping busy creating beautiful stitchery and she was an avid reader. Survivors: She is survived by three daughters, Cynthia T. Scarlett of Dayton, OH., Janey H. (Dewaine) Jones of Mountain Home, AR, Susan H. (Steve) Meadows of St. Albans, WV, and a special niece, Barbara L. Finch of Kirkwood, MO. She was the proud grandmother of Tracey Thompson, Russell Thompson, (deceased), Ginger Jones, Holly Wolf, Scot Meadows, Eric Meadows, Troy Meadows, and seven great-grandchildren. She received loving care from her caregivers and friends at Outlook Pointe and Hospice House in Mountain Home. Preceded in Death by: She was preceded in death by; her parents, her husband, Russell S. Hamrick, three siblings, Mildred P. Lake, Eloise P. Neff, C. Judson Pearson Jr., and one grandson Russell Thompson. Funeral: a memorial service will be held at a later date Memorials: Memorials can be made to Hospice of the Ozarks, First Presbyterian Church Library Fund, Mountain Home or First Presbyterian Church, St. Albans, W.V.
