Ray Freddie Cox was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Clinchport, Va., to Campbell and Ella Allen Cox. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served until honorably discharged in 1946. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He worked as a boilermaker and was a member of Local Union No. 1 of Chicago. He retired to Mountain Home in 1986. Survivors: Mr. Cox is survived by his wife, Patricia Cox of Mountain Home; their three sons, James Cox of Arvada, Colo., Joseph (Amanda) Cox of Mountain Home and John (Colleen) Cox of Chicago; four children from a previous marriage, Michael "Poncho" (Sandra) Cox of Partlow, Va., Fred Cox of Manassas, Va., Dwight (Desiree) Cox of Culpeper, Va., and Debbie Glasner of Wichita, Kan., and their mother, Carol Kornegay of Virginia.; 13 grandchildren, Dusty Cox, Patty Cox, Michelle Cox, Joseph Cox, Tanya Trammell, Dwight Cox, Robin Cox-Shomaker, Brandon Cox, Christine Harvey-Phillips, Christopher Cox, Tanner Cox, Emma Cox and Brian Cox; and 12 great-grandchildren, Austin Cox, Katie Cox, Chelsea Cox, Kayla Cox, Megan Cox, Christina Cox, Joseph Cox, Dwight Cox Jr., Austin Cox, Taylor Shomaker, Shea Davis and Taylor Harvey-Phillips. Preceded in Death by: He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bobbie, Roy, Ralph and James. Funeral: Memorial services for Ray Freddie Cox of Mountain Home, AR, will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials: Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks. Honorary Bearers: Denis Dreiling, Ed Monaghan, Jim Tatge and Joe Mahoney. Additional Notes: Military honors will be provided by the Ft. Sill Funeral Honors Team.
