Funeral Services for Raymond W. Tarnowski of Fernley, Nevada, will be 11:00 am, October 28, 2016, at Kirby's Tucker Memorial Mausoleum Open-Air Chapel. Entombment will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Mausoleum, Mountain Home, Arkansas. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #52 Honor Guard and the United States Navy Honor Guard.
Raymond passed away October 19, 2016, in Reno, Nevada at the age of 90. He was born February 12, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Frank and Agnes Ptack Tarnowski. He married Mary Van Gemert on June 26, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois and worked as a candy maker, then a milk man and finished his career as automobile painter. Raymond was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Raymond lived in Mountain Home, Arkansas, since moving from California, in 1981. In 2013, he moved to Reno, Nevada, to be closer to his family and live with his oldest daughter. He was a member and past Post Commander of the Alley-White American Legion Post #52. He enjoyed making candy and caramel corn for everyone (He was known as the Candy man), fishing, listening to music and going to dances and helping at bingo.
Raymond is survived by his daughter, Karen A. (John) Ashley of Reno, NV; son, Steve R. (Debbie) Tarnowski of Tracy, CA; daughter, Donna L. (John) Ashley of Livermore, CA; four grandchildren, Shaun (Karen) Harvey; Bradley Tarnowski; Erik Ashley; and Denay Ashley. And two great grandchildren Evan and Owen Harvey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
