The Rev. David B. Mattson, 74, of Bull Shoals passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, at Baxter Regional Medical Center due to complications following surgery.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 3rd from 5:00-7:00pm at Kirby and Family Funeral and Cremation Services in Bull Shoals. The funeral will be held Friday, March 4th at 11:00 am at Christ By The Lake Lutheran Church in Bull Shoals, Arkansas with ELCA Bishop Michael Girlinghouse preaching.
Dave was born Aug. 9, 1941, in New Haven, Connecticut, son of the Rev. Karl E. Mattson and Eva Bergendoff Mattson. He attended elementary and high schools in Massachusetts and Rock Island, Illinois. He also attended Augustana College in Rock Island, and seminary in Rock Island and Chicago. In 1966, Dave married Anna Nordlander, and together they raised three children: Katrina, Eric and John. Then, following a long family tradition in the ministry, he was ordained into the Lutheran Church of America in 1968 in Rockford, Illinois. Dave went on to serve Lutheran parishes in Jersey City, New Jersey; Chicago, Illinois; Prospect Heights, Illinois; Omaha, Nebraska; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Bull Shoals, Arkansas. He also served as interim minister in Bentonville and Fort Smith, Arkansas, was a former president of Bull Shoals Food Pantry, a member of Bull Shoals-Lakeview Rotary and served on the Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod Council.
Dave is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anna; children Katrina (Paul Johansen) Mattson, Eric (Linda) Mattson and John (Tami) Mattson; grandchildren Naomi and Emanuel Brown (daughter and son of Katrina), and Alexis and Luke Mattson (daughter and son of John); his brother, the Rev. Karl J. Mattson and his wife, Margaret; five nieces and four nephews; two brothers-in-law and many, many friends.
