Memorial Services for Rex Gilmer Mead of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 2:00 pm, Monday, October 24, 2011, at Kirby and Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Randy Ludwig officiating.
Rex died Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at his residence, at the age of 74. Rex was born September 17, 1937, in Oto, IA, the son of Lawrence Gilmer and Edith Mae Daniels Mead. Rex enlisted in the Army Reserve March 5, 1958, in Sioux City, Iowa. His job was Heavy Weapons Inf. Sharpshooter. He was discharged in 1962 as a Specialist 4th Class. He married Nancy Angeline Crawford on March 24, 1963, at Ellis Township, Harden County, Iowa. He worked for Frye Mfg., Frye Copysystems, Wheelabrater Frye for 25 years (ten in the factory and 15 in Data Processing). He was a Computer Programmer. He then moved to Mountain Home in July, 1984. He owned a small business for seven months, sold it, and worked for Baxter Healthcare for 17 years, retiring in June 2002. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting with his friends and family. He enjoyed doing things with his children, grandchildren, and his great-granddaugher, CocoRosie. He always gave a helping hand to others when needed.
Rex is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy, of Mountain Home; 3 daughters; Becky Sue (Charles) Clark, Brenda Lee (Terry) Lane, and Bridget Marie Mead; his brothers and sisters, Lawrence (Dorothy) Mead, Earl Mead, Mabel Mead, Steven Mead, Wayne (Luci) Mead, Ellen Mead, Margaret Morones, Billy (Deborah) Mead, and Eric (Shelly) Mead; his grandchildren, Amy Lynn Clark (Matt) Bowers, Charles David (Melanie) Clark, Kaylee Lane, Sarah Lane, Lisa Lane, Jessica and Cory Rushton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dennis Paul, and sister, Esther Joanne.
Inurnment will be in Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery.
