A Gathering of Friends for Richard F. ?Dick? Helmus, 95, of Bull Shoals, Arkansas will be from 3-4pm Saturday August 11, 2012 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home in Bull Shoals, AR, with Military Honors by Hoevel- Barnett Post 1341 VFW at 4PM. Dick passed away August 6, 2012. Dick was born May 30, 1917, at Chicago, IL to Edwin Francis and Mable Kathryn Tuke Helmus. After serving his country in WWII as an anti aircraft radar plotter in the United States Army, he returned to Chicago and married Patricia Sindelar on January 31, 1948. Dick worked as a carpet and tile layer and raised six children before retiring with Pat to Bull Shoals, AR in 1983. He was a member of the Hoevel-Barnett Post #1341 VFW, Retired Fisherman?s Club, North Arkansas Woodcarvers and the Local 1183 Carpenters Union. Dick will be remembered for his easy going ways and his genuine laugh. Dick is survived by his wife, Patricia Helmus of the home; two sons, Richard Helmus (Anne) of Flippin, AR and Brian Helmus of Chicago, IL; four daughters, Karlene Ramsdell (Steve) of Plainfield, IL, Mary Pat Smith of Chicago, IL, Nancy Autenrieth (Mike) of Mt. Prospect, IL and Lauretta Then (Chuck) of Barrington, IL; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one sister, Mary Lou Chaiser of Boca Raton, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jean Young and Betty Heller. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be make to the Bull Shoals Food Pantry.
