Richard Kenneth (Ken) Kunkel was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 6, 1934. He graduated high school in Aurora, Illinois, before moving to Texas. He joined the Air Force during the Korean War attaining the rank of Sergeant. Ken met his wife, Ellen Kay Darden in 1961 while attending Texas Christian University. He graduated with degrees in Business and Insurance. In 1967, the family moved to Madison, Wisconsin where he worked for Cuna Mutual Insurance Society for almost 30 years, becoming a Vice President before retiring. Ken and Kay retired in Mountain Home in 1996, becoming very involved in their community and church. He was an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Mountain Home and volunteer at Baxter Regional Medical Center. Ken passed way January 31, 2016, at Baxter Regional Medical Center.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte and John Kunkel, his sisters Doris Kingsbury and Helen Chinworth. He is survived by his wife Kay and his two children, Kathryn Paskey (Richard) and Kevin Kunkel (Sandra), his brother Raymond (JoAnn), and three grandchildren, Kyle, Erin, and Patrick.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Mountain Home.
Funeral Services for Ken will be 10:00 am, Friday, February 5, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, with Reverend Dr. Bill Henning officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, February 4, 2016, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home.
