A Funeral Mass for Richard "Dick" Matejka, 83, of Bull Shoals, Arkansas will be 10AM Saturday January 12, 2013, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Mountain Home, Arkansas with Reverend Father Chris Okeke as Celebrant. Visitation will be from 3-6PM Friday January 11, 2013, with a 6PM Vigil service at Kirby & Family Funeral Home in Bull Shoals, Arkansas. Dick passed away January 7, 2013, at his home. Dick was born October 17, 1929, at Blue Island, IL to John and Anna Manek Matejka. Dick was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked for General Motors for 15 years. Dick married Elaine Zika August 24, 1975, and moved her to the Promise Land (Arkansas) by owning and operating the Bass Bay Resort for five years. Dick was a lifetime member of the American Legion serving three times as commander in Chicago Ridge, IL and a long time member of the Hoevel-Barnett VFW Post #1341 where he served on the rifle squad. He was a past president of the Bull Shoals Retired Fisherman?s Club and a member of their bowling league. Dick was happiest on the lake fishing and swimming with his children and grandchildren or busy in his woodshop making his latest creation. He was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church. Dick is survived by wife, Elaine of Bull Shoals, AR; two sons, Richard Matejka Jr. (Sue) of Hampton, CT and Douglas Matejka of Tinley Park, IL; daughter, Jackie McShane (Patrick) of Orland Park, IL; stepsons, John Emmering (Robin) of Hanover Park, IL and Russell Emmering (Lori) of Lombard, IL; sister, Lucille Letkewicz of Oak Lawn, IL and brother, Robert Matejka (Lucille) of Elgin, IL; fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Johnny and Don Matejka; sister, Grace Cleveland and stepdaughter, Linda Gifford. Entombment will be in Kirby?s Tucker Memorial Mausoleum with grandchildren as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks. Arrangements are by Kirby & Family Funeral & Cremation Services.
