Services for Richard Swanson, Jr., 68 of Mountain Home, will be private.
Richard M. Swanson Jr. died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at his residence in Mountain Home, AR, after a long battle with cancer.
Dick was born June 29, 1941 in Brockton, Massachusetts to Richard M. and Marion Swanson. Dick was in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963 as an Electrictians Mate. After the Navy he hired on with Pacific Telephone Company in San Bernardino, California. After divestiture from AT&T it became Pacific Bell Telephone and he worked there for 28 years. He was a Senior Equipment Engineer at the time of his retirement in 1991 in San Diego, California. He enjoyed camping with his family and friends in the desert or along the beautiful California coast. He also was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed reading, fishing and crossword puzzels.
Dick is survived by his wife Cathy, his son Steve Swanson (Bridget) of Ocean Beach, California, his daughter Laurie Patterson (Duncan) of San Diego, California, one sister Jan Thrasher (Ray) of Flagstaff, AZ.
He is preceeded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
In lieu of flowers, Dick requested donations be made to the North Arkansas Food Bank or the Mountain Home Food Basket.
