Robert Radkey

Memorial services for Robert B. Radkey will be held Monday, August 3, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend James D. McDonald officiating. Military honors will be provided by North Arkansas Central Veterans Council thru Ozark VFW Post #3246 Honor Guard.

Robert Byron Radkey known to his Mountain Home friends and neighbors as Bob passed away on July 29, 2009. He was born April 24, 1920 to Lawrence and Belle (Budd) Radkey in West Pullman, Illinois. Bob was one of three children and grew up in the South Chicago area. He graduated from Christian Fenger High School in 1937 and attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1942 with a BS in Engineering.

Robert married Marjorie Eleanor Allen in 1942 and joined the United States Army, serving in the Pacific Theatre as a Captain in the engineering battalions building forward airfields. After the war, he enjoyed a 36 year career with the Illinois Central Railroad, earned his Professional Engineering (PE) License, and served in many executive capacities for the railroad, including senior management and outside consulting. The family lived in Park Forest, Illinois prior to retiring to Mountian Home in 1982. Bob and Marjorie had five children (Edward, Robert, William, Fran and Jim). Marjorie passed in December of 1992.

Bob enjoyed nature, music, science, travel, camping, amateur radio (call sign K9RPX), was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Mountain Home, and volunteered at the Baxter County Library and Hospice of the Ozarks.
He is survived by his loving family, Edith M. "Bobby" Duss of Mountain Home, AR, children, Edward B. Radkey of Houston, TX, Robert L. Radkey of Redwood City, CA, William A. Radkey, JD of Springfield, IL, Frances A. Radkey, MD of Mountain Home, AR, James A. Radkey of Albany, CA and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Ruth Quoos and Aileen Desauteles.

We will all dearly miss him and thank him for the wonderful things he brought into our lives.
