Rollie "Captain Roy" Mossburg

Rollie (Captain Roy) Mossburg Roy lost his long battle with Alzheimers Disease and passed away on Feb 27th, 2012. Roy was born on September 28th, 1928 to Kansas wheat famers, Art and Edith Mossburg in Monument, Kansas. The family lost their farm in the depression and relocated to Hartford, Illinois, where Roy attended a one room schoolhouse for all of his primary years. Roy graduated from Wood River High School in 1948, and worked for two years at Granite City, Illinois Steel Mills. He joined the U.S. Air Force and spent four years in Korea at Kimpo Air Base as a crew chief. After the war, Roy attended Eastern Illinois State College and also was employed by McDonnell Douglas for 37 years. He married Bobbie Wolf on Oct 1st, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri, where they resided for 26 years. He spent three years with his wife living in Saudi Arabia from 1981 - 1984. He was the hydraulics chief for the F15 fighter jet bought by the Saudi Air Force from McDonnell Douglas, called the Peace Sun Program. He and his wife were able to travel extensively in Europe at this time. Favorite countries were Greece and Holland. They also traveled extensively in the United States. Favorite areas were San Francisco, Gunnisen, Colorado and Niagara Falls. Roy's great passion in life was owning boats for 50 years of his marriage. He loved the water and in recent years enjoyed his pontoon boat on beautiful and tranquil Lake Norfork. All his friends and acquaintances knew him as a soft spoken, kind, gentle and loving individual. He loved dogs and had over 17 during his lifetime, most of who lived to a ripe old age. He also loved wildlife and the many species of birds that frequented his property. He was a snow bird with homes in Florida and in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He moved permanently to Mountain home in 2005. Roy loved his family and spent many happy hours boating and fishing with them. He did not belong to an organized religion but his God was important to him. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, infant Verlon and Darrell. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie of 56 years of Mountain Home, AR; 4 children, Kathie Iglesias and significant other, Rick Judge of Cedar Hill, MO, Dan Mossburg and wife, Julie of Live Oak, FL, Kristine Gill and husband, Don of Palm Harbor, FL and Robert Mossburg of Foley, MO; two grandsons, Jamie Gill of Palm Harbor, FL and Ryan Slawson of Fall brook, CA; one step-grandson, Tom Gill of Palm Harbor, FL and Roy's special friend, his pug dog Missy Mugs. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Ozarks, 701 Burnett Dr., Mountain Home, AR 72653 and The Humane Society of North Central Arkansas, 2654 Hwy. 201 N, Mountain Home, AR 72653. A Celebration of Roy's Life will be held in St. Louis, Missouri at a date as yet not determined. Arrangements are by Kirby and Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
