Rosemary Sommer

Mountain Home

Rosemary Sommer of Mountain Home, Arkansas, peacefully passed away on February 22, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on November 19, 1934, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, she was the beloved daughter of Charles and Minnie Gittinger Painter. On September 17, 1955, she wed James Sommer, embarking on a life filled with love and family.


As an RN, Rosemary dedicated many years to nursing, including 14 years to teaching nursing at Hillyard in St. Joseph, Missouri, before retiring and relocating to Mountain Home in 1990. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor and was fondly described as “spunky,” “feisty,” and “sassy.” Rosemary cherished travel, as well as indulging in reading, crafts, cards, and board games. She was a devoted member of Christ Community Church of Mountain Home, where she found a loving community.


She is survived by her husband, James Sommer; her son, Tim (Karen) Sommer of Boise, Idaho; her daughter, Debby (Jason) Williams of Mountain Home, Arkansas; nieces, Kay Jackson and Vicki (Len) Ohrnell; and her grandchildren, Taylor (Craig) Yowell, Travis Williams, Meagan Ewton, and John (Samantha) Williams. Additionally, Rosemary was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, as well as a great-niece and great-nephews who brought her immense joy.


Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Minnie Painter, and her brother, Paul (Charlene) Painter.


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kirby & Family Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Robert Weisner and Reverend David Johnson. Rosemary will be laid to rest in Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas, with her family members serving as pallbearers, Tim Sommer, Jason Williams, Travis Williams, and Craig Yowell. Honorary pallbearers include Rodger Obering, Jerry King, and Tom Sanford.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Community Church, Hospice of the Ozarks, or Lake Forest Senior Living, organizations that enhance the lives of others in the community.
