Ross Brown Jr.

Ross Brown, 99, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Ross was born on October 31, 1923, in East Saint Louis, Illinois, to Ross and Florence Vaughn Brown. Ross served in the United States Navy during World War II. While in service, he was involved with seven war patrols on the U.S.S. Flasher 249. After serving, he went to work as an electrician for nearly 45 years. He retired from Downtown Electric in Urbana, Illinois, after 20 years with them. He married Loretta on September 16, 1985 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Ross and Loretta were very involved in coaching the developmentally challenged athletes of Mountain Home. Since 1986, they coached them in softball, basketball, field and track and continued to coach them in bowling at Riverlake Bowling Lanes. They received the Governor’s “Silent Angel” award for their volunteer work. Ross and Loretta coached a youth bowling league at Riverlake Lanes since 1986. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 3246 and the American Legion Post #52.


Ross is survived by his daughter, Colleen Keller.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Loretta Ann Brown; daughter, Patricia Schweigert; and brother, Everett Brown. His sister, Eileen Jackovich passed away later the same day.

Memorial donations may be made in Ross's name to Arkansas Special Olympics.
